Workshop Venue
VECOS 2013 takes place in Firenze (Florence), Italy. Firenze is famous worldwide for its Gothic and Renaissance buildings, art galleries and museums. Its historic centre attracts millions of tourists each year, especially lovers of Renaissance art. Nowadays, Firenze also plays an important role in fashion industry; furthermore, it is also a major national economic centre and an industrial hub.
The workshop will be located at the Centro Didattico Viale Morgagni of the University of Florence in
Viale Morgagni 44, Florence (googlemap).
All sessions will take place in Room 303 (third floor)
How to arrive in Florence:
The city airport of Florence, Amerigo Vespucci Airport, is located a few kilometers north-west of the city center, that can be reached by a direct bus or by taxi.
Florence is also served by the airport of Pisa, Galileo Galilei Airport, and the airport of Bologna, Guglielmo Marconi Airport. Trains from Galileo Galilei Airport to Florence railway stations run every 60 minutes: there are direct services and services with change in Pisa central station; also bus services connect Galileo Galilei Airport to Florence. To reach Florence from Guglielmo Marconi Airport, instead, there is a bus connecting the airport with the Bologna railway station, from which frequent high-speed trains go to Firenze.
Florence is also well serviced by the railway network, some main european cities are directly connected to Florence via Euronight trains. High speed trains from/to Rome, Milan, Venice and all the most important towns of Italy are frequent. Most regional trains from Pisa, Lucca, Siena, Livorno, Pistoia, Prato stop at the Florence Rifredi station, in walking distance from the Workshop venue.
How to arrive to the Workshop Venue:
From Florence city centre / Firenze Santa Maria Novella station:
- By bus from Florence main station, Firenze Santa Maria Novella (about 15 minutes): bus n. 2 (to CALENZANO, get off at "Santo Stefano in Pane”); n. 14 B or 14 C (to CAREGGI or NICCOLO’ DA TOLENTINO and get off at "Morgagni 07"); n. 28 (to VOLPAIA, get off at "Santo Stefano in Pane"). Bus routes and timetable are available at www.ataf.net.
- By train from Florence main station, Firenze Santa Maria Novella (about 5 minutes + 10 minutes walk): take all trains stopping at the station “Firenze Rifredi”. To check the timetable, please visit www.trenitalia.it.
From Firenze Rifredi station:
- By feet, 10 minutes walk: from the station square take via Steccuto, turn right at the first crossing (via R. Giuliani), then, at a petrol station, turn left to via S. Stefano in Pane. At the second traffic light of via S. Stefano in Pane you will meet Viale Morgagni, turn left and go straight ahead till number 44 at the right.
From the airport:
- Florence airport (Amerigo Vespucci) is only 2.5 km far from the Conference location but there is no direct bus connection: you can reach the Conference location by taxi or you can go by bus to Florence main station and then take a bus or a train from there (see directions above).
- If you arrive at Pisa airport, you can reach Florence main station either by train or by bus (about 1 hour).
From the highway:
- The Centro Didattico Viale Morgagni is located in the north of Florence, near to the main highways A1 and A11 which connect Florence with Pisa, Bologna, Milan and Rome. If you come to Florence by car, from the highway, take the exit “Firenze Nord” and follow Viale Guidoni until you get to Piazza del Terzolle. Here turn right and then take the first left (Via Mariti). Proceed until you come to the square Piazza Dalmazia and go straight on. The Conference location is about 200 metres further ahead on the right. Notice that free parking is scarce, but there is a cheap large parking lot further 200 metres on, as a service for the hospital.
